Hi, I'm Diane, owner of OhNo!Studio LLC and creator of Paper Guys and Dolls jewelry. My background is in fine art; I have a BFA and MFA in painting and printmaking. For the last 15 years or so I've focused mainly on collage as my form of creative expression, which is how I came to develop the idea of using vintage paper dolls to make fun, unique jewelry.

I was mulling over how I wanted to incorporate a set of paper dolls that I'd been gifted into my collage practice, when one evening my gaze settled on some coasters one of my kids gave me: brain slices which, when stacked together, form the image of a whole brain. I thought, "Hmm. Wouldn't paper doll coasters be fun? You could have the clothing coaster stack on top of the doll coaster, and change the outfits." My husband quickly quipped, "You should make jewelry like that!"

I stared back at him, my brain going every which way, working out how they would look and how the clothing would be able to change out easily. Discarding idea after idea, I came to rest on magnets, which I knew very little about. The sketchbook came out. How would they look? I wanted the dolls to be the focus, clean and uncluttered, so the clothing would stand out. Resin seemed to be the option I needed, but I also knew nothing about working with resin. I started ordering materials to bring this wild idea to life, and got to work, watching YouTube videos and reading books on resin and magnets.

After about 18 months of research and development with many mistakes and mishaps, I finally got the product I had envisioned: Vintage paper doll jewelry with magnetic, interchangeable clothing.

The collagist in me couldn't stay away too long, however, and I began producing collaged jewelry pieces, too, which you'll also find available here. The collaged pieces are all unique works of art - no two are the same (nor are their titles...)
